Time To Reuse Your Old Jars

As you probably know by now, I really try my best to avoid wastage, and sending things to landfill. Our packaging is all made from recycled materials, we use plant-based wax and we plant a tree every day top offset our itty-bitsy carbon footprint.

But I think the best way we can be kind to the environment is by REUSING – not recycling!

So we now offer discount for anybody who brings back their used candle jar (like getting a penny for every lemonade bottle you returned in the 1980s!). Don’t worry what state the jar is in. As you’ll see from the video we’ll do all the hard work and give that glass a new lease of life.

If you have a stack of old candle jars feel free to drop them off at our studio at The John Marley Centre in Newcastle, or any of our markets.

Jar Reuse – Time To Save!

Hiya Thanks for stopping by!

I’m so pleased you want to help me recycle our glass jars. I’ve struggled to work out what to do with the used candle jars for ages – until now. I’ve now worked out how to fully clean the jars to be reused again, but I need your help.

As a carbon-neutral business reusing the jars over and over again to make new candles will significantly decrease the need to make new ones and reduce the amount of glass going in the bin or to the recycling plant (which has a negative environmental impact).

So, bring me your jars –

it’s that simple!

No need to worry about taking the labels off or clearing out any leftover wax or residue. Leave that to us, we’ll do all the hard work. As a extra n incentive (on top of reducing waste) every time you bring back your used candle jar to my studio, market stall or the amazing Evergreen Hair Salon (Whickham or Low Fell) you’ll get £1 off your next candle*

* Directly to us via our market stall or studio (not via a third party retailer).

* The discount is only available once – £1.00 off each new candle bought.

* Not in conjunction with any other offers.

* Applies to 180ml jars – sadly mini’s aren’t yet included.

* If you’ve kept the lid then even better.

A Bit More About Hot Wax

My regular customers will probably already know that I take my impact on the environment very seriously. My candles are made with soy wax which is more sustainable than paraffin, all packaging is made with materials that have already been recycled.

We are now a carbon-neutral business. Read more.

As Good As New!

Coffee Collaboration

Coffee lovers, we’ve got the collab of your dreams!

We’ve teamed up with our friends (& top coffee & doughnut extraordinaires!) at Deep North to bring you the most delicious mochachino candle. With notes of fresh ground coffee, cocoa & just a hint of vanilla.

Deep North is a coffee shop in Tynemouth which is a small town 9 miles East of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is a surfer’s paradise with it’s beautiful long sandy beach and a vibrant high street on weekends filled with dog walkers, joggers and day trippers.

We’ve been asked many times to do a coffee-scented candle, so teaming up with Deep North seemed like the perfect match. Deep North provide the coffee grounds which helps create a unique scent and you know how much we love reusing to reduce our impact on the environment.

We’re using their leftover Allpress coffee grounds, alongside our vegan soy wax & recycled glass jars to give you the most sustainable candle yet!

The Michaccinno is available exclusively from Deep North’s shop own Front Street Tynemouth, as well as any markets they feature at.

We’re the 1st candle company to be 100% carbon neutral in the North East of England…

…and we’re absolutely over the moon!

From the very beginning I’ve always tried to minimise the impact of Hot Wax Newcastle on the environment, but I always thought there must be more we can do, so after tonnes of research and late nights, I’ve taken it a step further and I’m so proud to announce that I’ve partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain to offset our carbon emissions and make Hot Wax Newcastle 100% carbon neutral.

Each month I will plant 30 trees, as well as offset 5 tonnes of CO²e – reversing our climate impact. How ace is that? So next time you buy one of my candles, know that you’re not only supporting a small business but one who is doing their very best to look after our planet – it’s the only home we have!

To celebrate, I’m offering 20% off site wide* using code co2 until Sunday 27 November.

Love, Ash xoxo

*Excluding sale items

42% of consumers say that the environmental impact of a brand influences their decision to buy from them. We’d hazard a guess that that figure sits higher with you folks, who are rightly holding companies to account for their impact and looking to support brands who take responsibility.

Feature In The Local Press

We’ve had a little mention in the Evening Chronicle – I spoke to them at Newcastle Vegan Market at the weekend…

Image: Evening Chronicle

It was great chatting about our Vegan ethics and showcasing our scented candles to the vegans of Newcastle and beyond.

Ash Tate runs Hot Wax, a company which sells vegan candles. The 35-year-old, from WhickhamGateshead, was selling her products at the market. She said: “Everything is completely vegan, we use soy wax.

“I think people are trying to be more cautious of what’s going on around them. We get a good number of non-vegans buying products as well.”
